type your answers for future reference.
Reflect and note for yourself the answers to the following
questions.
1. Find Matthew 1:18 in your Bible and read from there down
to verse 23 in chapter 2.
- What name was Joseph to give the baby? (Matthew 1:21)
- By what other name would He also be known? (Matthew 1:23)
- What does the name ‘Immanuel’ mean? Matthew 1:23)
- Where was the baby born? (Matthew 2:1)
- What was His mother’s name? (Matthew 1:18)
- What was her husband’s name? (Matthew 1:24)
- Who was the father of the child? (Matthew 1:20)
Note: Marriages in those days were arranged and contracts agreed by
the parents. Then there was a waiting period during which the couple
would remain single. They would not live together until after the formal
marriage, but they were stilled called husband and wife. The waiting
period was to demonstrate the pledge and purity of the bride.
2. Read Matthew 1:18-25 again.
- How do you think you would feel if you had been Mary or Joseph?
3. Find and read Luke 2:1-20.
- What happened that caused Joseph and Mary to travel from
Nazareth to Bethlehem? (Matthew 2:1-3)
- What did the angel say to the shepherds about the baby?
(Matthew 2:10-12)
- Why do you think Mary kept thinking about what this all meant?
(Matthew 2:18-19)
